Today is my first day at 4 year old kinder! I think both mum and I are both really ready for it!

I have new teachers and some new friends to meet as well as some old friends from last year.

I'm very excited because when I got to kinder I noticed that there is Lego. Did you know that I love Lego?

I thought I would show you my swimming.

I am trying so hard in my lessons! I try really hard when the teacher asks me to swim. I try really hard to do somersaults when she's not watching. I try really hard to stay underwater for as long as I can when I am supposed to be waiting patiently for my turn.

Our family has been having a go at growing things in our garden (again). Things other than weeds.

And it turns out we've done a good job!

You might know that I got lots of Lego for Christmas. I love Lego! I love building it. I also love taking it apart.

I love making new creations and explaining in (a lot of) detail what my creation does.

Hi all,

Yesterday I went back for my first swimming lesson of the year. I try really hard in my lesson but my teacher says that I need to make sure I have my listening ears on. I don't know which ears she thinks I had on.

Today I am going to have my kinder orientation. I think this means that I meet my teacher and find out where I put my bag.

This morning mum put out all the ingredients for muffins and then let me make them all by myself. They were delicious!

Hi all,

Yesterday I graduated! Yep, I graduated from 3 year old kinder. It's been a fun year with my friends and to be honest, if the rest of my school career is going to be like this, I think it's going to be pretty easy.

My teacher got pretty emotional saying goodbye to us all and she asked if she could have a cuddle goodbye from everyone as she gave us our gift. I got to go first (in front of all the kids and mums. She gave me my gift and asked for a hug. I took my book and said, "No!". Mum told me this wasn't my finest moment.

Maybe I'll do better next year!

Gingerbread house

Hi all,

Mum and I made our first ever gingerbread house this year!

I'd like to tell you that we baked all the gingerbread ourselves. But we didn't. We bought it in a box. That's right - a box. All we had to do was stick it together with the icing (also in the box!). Then we put lollies on it (yep - also in the box).

Not a bad first effort.

Mum didn't know the etiquette on when you should start eating your gingerbread house so we've been eating ours already. The roof is not looking so good anymore.

Hi All,

I want to show you a photo of something very special. A photo of me doing something I've never done before. It's very exciting...

Yep! I met Santa. Mum took me on a train ride into the city to dad's work and we met Santa. Very exciting.

Santa has me a bit confused though. I saw him at the stage in Eastland last week. But then we walked into Myer and there was another Santa there. 2 Santas in the same place. Strange. How many more of him are there??

Holiday Fun

Hi All,

We've just been away on family holidays!

We went to Warrnambool. Would you like to know what we did?

We ate, we played at the park and we played at the ocean.

That is all. Which makes our holiday perfect!

I even went on a flying fox. This is pretty big for me because I don't really like scary things. Some slides even scare me. But I was very brave. And do you know what? I loved it. A lot. I went on it a lot of times.

Flight Safety

Hi All,

A couple of weeks ago I went on an airplane to visit my Grammy and Papa.

I am a very cautious flyer.

I think air safety is a very serious matter.

I spent the first 30 minutes of each flight (there and back) studying the flight safety information card. I found it quite odd that the other passengers were not so studious. After I had studied the card, I then asked my mum whether I could talk her through it too.

I also felt that it was important to practice the brace position in case of emergency. I asked mum and dad to practice as well, which they did. When the plane was landing I assumed the brace position (can't be too careful). For some reason, mum and dad thought this was hilarious.

Mum, Dad - there is nothing funny about flight safety.

The Royal Melbourne Show

Hi All,

Last week I went to the Royal Melbourne Show with my mum and dad!

We got to pet lots of baby animals like goats and sheep and chickens (look how brave my mum is being!!).

We went on the Ferris wheel (look how brave I am being!!).

I even got to buy a showbag. I chose a Ben10 show bag. It had a Ben10 projector watch, a reward chart, 2 bags, a pencil case and a towel. I have my towel hanging up in the bathroom. I love it. Mum says it doesn't match the decor.

I had a lot of fun at the show and I've already asked if we can go again next year!

Hi All,

We have had a weekend of fun!

Yesterday we went for a drive in the Dandenongs and we drove past a really cool playground called Montrose Park. I asked mum and dad if we could stop to play and they said yes! It had really fun equipment and I had a great time playing.

Then today we went back to the Dandenongs AGAIN and this time we went to a tulip festival. There were a LOT of tulips.

On Tuesday Mum came to Kinder with me! She was a helper (this means that she vacuums the floor after we have our afternoon tea!)

Word Games

Hi All,

I told you the other day that I love reading and that I know lots of words.

Today we played some word games with my new easel.

Mum drew a picture of a body and then wrote all the body parts onto little cards. I had to pick a card, read the word, then stick the card onto the picture in the right spot.

Then Dad drew a cool picture of a city and mum wrote lots of words for me to read and stick on the picture. I made the game even more fun by closing my eyes when I stick the card on the picture.

Rabbit Ears

Hi All,

Do you always get dressed the proper way?

I don't.

Sometimes I get dressed the crazy way.

Today I was supposed to be getting dressed in a hurry because we were late. Instead of getting dressed the proper way (which would have been fast and quick), I got dressed the crazy way (which is slow and funny). Sorry mum.

Mum put out my clothes and asked me to get dressed quickly. A couple of minutes later she called out to me, "All dressed?" to which I replied, "Come check out my rabbit ears!!"

She can't have been too mad because she took my photo!

Rabbit ears - way more fun than just putting your jeans on your legs. You should try it.

Been a long time

Hi All,

Yep - it's been a long time. Sorry about that. Sometimes I run out of things to write and think you might get bored of reading about the mundane things that I do.

Anyway, I'll give you an update on my life.

I am 4
I go to Kinder for 4.5 hours a week
I wake up between 7 and7:45 and go to bed at about 7:30
I have a nap during the day once or twice during the week
I haven't watched TV or played iPad or computer on a weekday for about 3 months
I am enjoying swimming lessons. I can use a noodle or board to kick and swim across the pool. I can jump in from the edge and I can put my head under water
I like playing lego and glowsticks and doing concerts
My FAVOURITE thing is playing roughhouse with daddy
I love going into the city to have lunch or dinner with my mum and dad
I can read really well. I can read hundreds of words and I LOVE reading stories. Last night I read Green Eggs and Ham to mum and dad and I only needed help with a couple of words.
I don't really like bed time. It makes me sad that I have to go to bed.

Hi Everyone,

Today I turned 4!

I will never be 3 again. Ever.

I have been so excited about my birthday. I woke up this morning and mum and dad sang happy birthday to me. I got kisses and cuddles. I was very happy because I was 4. I was so excited that I forgot about my presents! Mum and dad had to ask me if I wanted them (I said yes).

I got so many wonderful presents! I got to open presents from mum and dad, Grandma and Grandad and Grammy and Papa. I got Lego and a lego head sort and store thing, games and books and puzzles and zoobs.

Mum asked me the other day what I would like to do for my birthday - she said we could go to the zoo or ten pin bowling or the movies or scienceworks or mini golf or whatever I wanted. I picked minigolf! So we played minigolf and then we went on the train to see daddy and have lunch.

I've spent the rest of the day playing with my new things. I love my new things and I love being 4.

Hi All,

Do you remember how I told you that mum and dad only let me watch tv on the weekend? Well today I made my mum sit in front of the tv (while it was turned off) for about an hour and I made up the shows that we could have been watching. I made up an episode of Octonauts and told her everything that was happening with Dashi, Kwazii and Captain Barnacles. When that was finished the news was on (just pretend remember!) but we didn't want to watch that so I decided we would "watch" Play School. I told mum that Jay and Justine were on today. Jay was building houses with blocks.

I suppose that this "no tv watching" fiasco has probably helped with my imagination skills.

This is a photo of me and my mum. I mean, mum and I. We went on the train last night to meet my daddy and have dinner in the city. I love it when we do that. I love hearing the announcements on the train. I love repeating them. Again and again. Loudly.

Hi All,

Do you remember that I told you I love being naked? I have found one drawback - sometimes it gets cold. But I have found a solution... I have found that if I lie down in front of my chest of drawers beside my bed the central heating vent blows right on me.

Mum found me there, laying naked. She asked me why I was laying there and I told her, "Warm air!" She covered me with a blanket and I chilled out for ages reading a manual and talking with dog.

One of my favourite things to do at the moment is play with shredded paper. You would be amazed at all the different things you can do with it. I build machines with my dad's saxophone stands and then put shredded paper into all the little holes. It is a lot of fun and I'm pretty sure my mum really enjoys picking up all the bits of shredded paper I leave laying around the house.

Today I went on a special outing with my mum and my special friend Phoebe. We went to a magical place called Burch & Purchese Sweet Studio. It had lots of delicious treats.

I picked a passionfruit meringue as my treat and it was delicious.

Hi All,

It has come to my attention that I made an error in yesterday's blog post.

I said that I was a 4 year old when in fact I am only 3.

This seems like a strange error for me to make and I apologise unreservedly for it. Why would I say I am 4 when I am only 3? Strange. Also a terrible mistake to make as this would mean that I have missed my 4th birthday and the associated presents. That would not be good.

I love the idea of presents at the moment. Mum and I went shopping the other day and I asked mum whether she could take me to Target. She said there wasn't one at that shopping centre but there was Kmart and Big W. I said Big W would be OK. Mum asked me why I wanted to go and I told her that I wanted to show her all the things I wanted for my birthday. So mum took me to Big W and I pointed out anything and everything that looked remotely like a toy and told her that I wanted it for my birthday. I hope she was taking mental notes because she certainly wasn't writing anything down.

So again, I apologise for saying I was 4 when I am in fact 3. You will certainly know when I am 4 because I will tell you all about it (and about the many presents that I will receive).

Terrible news

Hi All,

I have some terrible news. It happened a couple of weeks ago but it's taken me this long to be able to tell you about it. It is truly shocking so please be prepared (you may even want to make sure you are sitting down).

Mum and Dad announced to me a couple of weeks ago that I would only be able to watch the tv, or use the computer and ipad on the weekend. Shocking, I know. Unbelievable, actually. Crazy.

They said that because I would rather do those things than do kid things like play and read and create we needed to rebalance and the best way to do that was go cold turkey. I know that you are thinking that my parents are incredibly mean and totally unfair. To be honest, I agree. What is better than hopping in a basket and watching playschool?

I don't know...

So I've had to start making my own fun:

Like taking all my teddies, getting my cd player and rockin' out to music
Building cities out of my craft things
Playing lots of board games

Looking at mum's masterchef magazines
Having quiet time doing puzzle books and activity books
Helping mum do the cooking

I know what you're thinking - what kind of life is that for a 4 year old? I think for the moment I'm going to have to humour mum and dad (although my favourite question at the moment is, "Is it the weekend?"). The funny thing is often I get to the weekend and I have so much fun that I forget to ask to watch the tv and play on the ipad. I'm really going to have to work on that.

If you see my mum and dad, please could you tell them they are being unreasonable? Thank you in advance.

We made bridges and tunnels, ponds and electricity poles, parks, swings, roads and stop signs. Lots of good stuff.

Today I got a visit from a long lost friend.

I haven't seen her for a long time and I have missed her.

This is me and Phoebe! Phoebe is very patient with me. She lets me show her lots of things that are very important to me but probably very boring to her.

I would also like to tell you something about me that you may not know.

I love, love, love board games.

I've got monopoly, trivial pursuit, balderdash, cranium plus other games that don't have boards but are still very good like pass the pigs, dominoes and uno. I love them. I could play them all day long. If you come to my house I'll probably ask you to play one with me.

Hi All,

Sorry.

It has come to my attention that I have been missed.

That some of my lovely friends out there have missed hearing about my life.

I am sorry.

I am glad to know that your life is enriched by my life. I am glad that you miss me. That makes me feel special.

I will tell you a story so that you won't miss me any more. It goes like this.

I was jumping on the trampoline the other day. Jumping, jumping. When I did a jump that did not quite work properly. I started crying very hard. Mum and dad asked me what happened. I was too upset to tell them.

Mum: Did you hurt your head?
Me: No
Dad: Did you land funny on your hands?
Me: No
Mum: Did you land funny on your legs?
Me: Yes

Later, however mum questioned me some more. That is when I demonstrated on the bed the action that had hurt me on the trampoline. Mum laughed and told me I had done "the splits". Mum then informed me that I had actually hurt my groin. I did not know that I had a groin but it turns out I do and that I can hurt it by landing on the trampoline doing the splits. Ouch.

Hi All,

My family went away for a quick holiday this week to Metung.

We ate lots of good food, went for lots of drives and even went on a boat trip.

I got to be the captain on the boat. We also saw kangaroos and goats on the islands but even more exciting than that was that we saw dolphins in the water. Lots and lots of dolphins. Fast ones, slow ones, big ones, baby ones. Probably 30 of them. Very exciting.

I have learnt some important lessons in the last week. I will share them with you:

You should not pour a jug of water down the heating vent. Your mummy will not be happy
I do not like change. If something gets moved in our house it upsets my equilibrium. Couches should stay in the same spot. Forever.
My mummy can be very resourceful. We forgot to take one of my teddies on holidays and this made me have a bad sleep. So the next night my mummy made me a new teddy by getting a pillowcase, stuffing it with daddy's tshirt, putting a hair elastic around it and calling it Bugsy. Worked like a charm.

Mother's Day

Hi All,

On Friday we had Mother's Day at Kinder. A special day when all the kids got to bring their mum to Kinder. We had made presents, had prepared a song, made afternoon tea. Very special. But my mum didn't come. Nope. She had conjunctivitis. Going to Kinder with conjunctivitis is not allowed. So you may think that I was very sad about this. But I wasn't. Do you know why? Because my Grandma came along instead!!

That's right! Grandma and Grandad came and stayed with us this week so I got to take my Grandma to Kinder with me. She was very well behaved.

I have had a lot of fun this week with Grandma and Grandad. But enough about them because today is Mother's Day!

I love my mum.

Being Naked

Hi All,

Today I would like to tell you that I love being naked. Love it, love it, love it.

I love the freedom, the happiness.

I am without a doubt at least 20% happier when I am naked. I am generally a very happy kid but get me naked and I kick things up a notch. I play better, I tell better jokes, I am a better version of myself when I am naked.

Mum, however, seems obsessed with me being dressed. She thinks that I should have clothes on most of the time.

Every morning mum asks me to put my clothes on. She asks me to go into my room and put the clothes that she has carefully laid out for me onto my naked body. I do not like doing this because this would mean that I would cease to be naked. So usually I am still naked an hour later. Unfortunately sometimes we have to go out and mum says that I absolutely MUST get clothes on.

The good thing is that if I have a lunch time sleep I have another opportunity to be naked when I take my PJ's off. So I might have morning naked time and afternoon naked time (and if I'm really lucky after bath naked time too).

Sometimes I even get to go to sleep naked (well, apart from my nappy). I ask mum or dad before I go to bed if I can have belly skin and leg skin and moopy skin and arm skin. And sometimes they let me. This makes me happy.

Hi All,

Today is Easter!

Today should be a day to get up early, to be very excited, to jump out of bed and find my Easter eggs. That did not happen this morning. Nope. I woke up at10am. Yep, 10am. I think mum was going slightly crazy as she wanted me to get up and find my eggs. Mum and Dad opened my door up at about 9:55am in the hope of waking me up. It took another 10 minutes until I called out, "I'm up!" What made my sleep in even more strange was that my bed was completely wet. It turns out that mum and dad put me to bed in a hurry last night (because they were going out on a date) and they forgot to put my nappy on! So I slept in a bed of wee and slept until 10am!

So instead of getting up and finding my eggs, I got up and had a bath. Mum told me to close my eyes on the way to the bath so I wouldn't see my eggs, but I kept shouting out, "There's one! There's another one!"

Anyway, EVENTUALLY, I got to do my easter egg hunt. I found 12 eggs but mum said I can't eat them all this morning (meanie...). But I did get to have one for breakfast, along with a hot cross bun and a hot chocolate.

Kinder craft

Hi All,

Today was my last day at Kinder for term 1. Today was an exciting day because Dad took me to Kinder and picked me up. And I got to bring home my Kinder craft - an Easter basket with an Easter egg inside! I stamped the basket and stapled it together.

An outing with my Dad

Hi All,

Today I went on an outing with my dad. We went to Grant's Picnic Ground in Kallista. We got to see lots of beautiful birds.

I was so excited about my outing with my dad that I didn't have my afternoon sleep before we went. When we got home Dad told Mum that I fell asleep in the car but I told her that I didn't fall asleep - I was just closing my eyes because the sun was very bright. Dad says 20 minutes is a long time to keep my eyes closed just to avoid the sun...

Yesterday mum and dad took me to the Melbourne Museum.

I was very excited because I thought we were going to the Science Museum (which I love) but it was a different one.

This one was very cool too. It had dinosaurs and bugs and planets and lava! I got to see a 3D movie about lava and volcanoes.

It was a lot of fun and I definitely want to go back again.

Hi All,

Yesterday I had a sleep before kinder. Mum woke me up about 10 minutes before kinder started, got me dressed super fast and drove me to kinder. I must have been sleepy and a bit confused because when mum was signing me in to kinder I started to take my clothes off. Mum saw me and came over and said, "Roman, why are you taking your clothes off?" I had no explanation. So I sat down and started to take my shoes off. Mum said to me, "Roman, why are you taking your shoes off?" I didn't know the answer to that either. Very confused.

My mum and dad encourage me to be a friendly boy. For example when I'm at the park, I go up to the other children and say, "Hi, my name's Roman. What's your name?"

At swimming today I was feeling friendly so I went up to one of the other mums and had a chat. This was our conversation:

Roman: Hi! When I grow up... (I think she may have not heard this part of the conversation which may make the rest of the conversation worrying)
Roman (cont.): I'm going to fly to Canberra
Other mum: Oh really. Why is that?
Roman: I've got to go and earn some money
Other mum: What are you going to do with your money?
Roman: I've got to pay for our house
Other mum: Oh
Roman: Yep, and buy our food. And pay for kinder.
Other mum: OK

I know about what money gets used for because every day when we take dad to the train station Mum and I have this conversation:
Roman: Why does daddy have to go to work?
Mum: To earn money
Roman: Why?
Mum: To pay for our house and our food
Roman: What else?
Mum: So Mummy and Roman get to do fun things together like swimming and Sporteka
Roman: When I grow up and you and daddy are small, I will go to work and get money to pay for our house and food.

Play School concert again

Hi All,

Today I got to go to another Play School concert! This time my dad took me. Abby and Teo were the presenters again but I didn't mind. To be honest with you I liked going to the concert with dad better than going with mum because after the concert dad took me out for a Babycino and also bought me a Humpty Dumpty toy!

At home mum and I made our own play school concert. We made tickets for my teddies:

Woccamole

Hi All,

On Play School they made guacamole and I asked mum if we could make some. Although I call it "woccamole." We had some avocado in our fruit basket but had to wait until it ripened which it did today.

I scooped the avocado, squeezed in lemon and lime juice, added salt and pepper and stirred and mashed. I then scooped it onto my rice cracker. It was yum!

Also my dad asked me to tell you that we made another tower that went all the way to the ceiling:

Play School and a new toy

Hi All,

Yesterday Mum took me to see the Play School concert. Teo and Abby were the presenters. I really loved it! I danced and sang (and just quietly I think I was the best dancer).

Also on another note, I found a box of my baby things under Mum and Dad's bed. I don't know why it's under there because I found the BEST toys. One of them I've been playing with it ALL day.

I've used it as a fire extinguisher and as a telephone (see below):

I've also used it as a gun but don't tell mum that.

SO MUCH FUN. Mum says she doesn't remember it being that much fun.

Yes - I'm a boy

Hi All,

The other day my mum gave me a little box of lego. It was the little green soldiers from Toy Story 3. I had a great time putting them together with my mum. Then I found some little pieces of lego and I didn't know what they were called. I asked mum and she said,

Mum: "Oh, they are called guns but we may put those away."
Roman: "WHY??? I LOVE guns!"
Mum: "No. Guns aren't very good"
Roman: "Why?
Mum: "Guns can hurt people"
Roman: "Why?"
Mum: "Because angry people use them to hurt people"
Roman: "When I'm angry can I use a gun?"
Mum: "No. I think we'll put them away now"

I got the box from the lego and showed mum the picture of the soldiers with the guns and told her, "See mum. I HAVE to have them. It says here!!"

Since then I've been slightly obsessed with guns. I have never really shown much interest in my duplo but now I use my blocks to build guns. I find sticks and make them into guns (like this photo):

I know my mum doesn't like it so I don't call them guns. I call them "something" or "rubadub scrubbers." Somehow I think she may suspect what I'm really making.

Things I say to my mum

Hi All,

Sometimes I say lovely things to my mum. Like "I love you" and "you look beautiful" and "I love playing with you." But yesterday I said something which wasn't so lovely.

Mum was having a shower and I asked if I could have one too. Mum said, "Sure, hop in." So I took my clothes off and got in the shower. I was playing with my toys but there wasn't lots of room like when I have a shower by myself so I looked around to see what the problem was. Then I said my not so lovely thing. I said, "Mum, your bum is SO big."

Sorry mum. I still love you (big bum and all).

I've been a very busy boy!

If you're wondering, this is what my week looks like:

Monday - Mum's Group
Tuesday - Swimming Lesson and Kinder
Wednesday - Play Date with my friend Lydia
Thursday - MOPS (every fortnight) or an outing like the zoo or the play centre
Friday - Sporteka and Kinder

I love going to Kinder. This week I start going to full sessions - 2 hours and 2.5 hours. 3 of my friends from Mum's Group go to Kinder with me so I already have some friends. I told mum that some of the other kids names are Meth, Death and Cad.

I'm doing well at Swimming Lessons too. I told my mum that I love Claire, my teacher. I don't really like floating on my back but I'll do it if Claire asks me really nicely.

I have all new kids in my Sporteka class this year as the other kids graduated to school. I think I'm one of the older kids now so I'll have to show the other kids how to do things. Next week we're doing basketball.

Last week I went to the dentist for the very first time. I sat on mum's lap while the dentist looked at my teeth. He told me I had 20 teeth. I told him that, "Actually I have 12." Obviously not a very good dentist. He did say that my teeth were lovely and clean though.

Hi All,

Lately I've been talking a lot about seeds and planting things. I found an apricot seed in Daylesford and asked mum and dad if I could plant it. They said yes, so I planted it in the garden. I was very disappointed when I checked the next day and there was no apricot tree.

Because of this interest in growing things, we spent the afternoon in the garden planting seeds and seedlings and plants.

I was very helpful (except I kept stepping on the seedlings - whoops).

Mum says it is my job to water the plants every day.

My first day at Kinder

Hi All,

Today was my first day at Kinder.

I got my backpack ready with mum. I have to make sure I have a change of clothes and a hat. Later when I go for longer I'll have to make sure I have yummy snacks as well.

Then mum and dad took me to kinder. I showed my dad where I put my backpack and the little cubby hole for my hat. I also showed him the little toilet and my very own hand towel.

When I went to kinder orientation last week, I needed to go the toilet. The teacher said that little boys stand up when they do wees. Why has nobody ever told me this????!!!! I have always sat down to do my wees (people must think I am so lazy!). So I stood up and did my wee. Now every time I have needed to do a wee I've said to myself, "Teacher says boys stand up" so I've done all my wees standing up. I've learnt so much from kinder already!!

Bus Driver

Yesterday I decided I would use some boxes to make a bus.

I put my teddies in the box at the back and I was the bus driver in the front box. I also put on my bus driver hat.

I got a book to be my street directory (in case I got lost).

I got very upset when mum took my photo. It's not right to distract a bus driver like that.

Swimming Lesson

Hi All,

Today I went to my first ever swimming lesson!

I was very excited. When I got the pool I asked mum whether I could wee in the pool and make the water go green. She said no and promptly took me to the toilet - party pooper.

I had a good time at my swimming lesson. My teacher's name is Claire. I went in the water with 4 other boys. Two boys were very good swimmers and 2 were very scared. I was kind of right in the middle. I wasn't scared but I don't really know how to swim yet. I got to practise floating on my back, swimming with a noodle and putting my face in the water.

I think I'll go back again next week.

Lately I have been a very hungry boy.

Most mornings I have 2 breakfasts - 2 weetbix with milk and some berries and then I'll have some porridge with yoghurt. I have lots of snacks throughout the day like rice cakes, fruit, muscle power balls, biscuits. Lots of lunch and dinner followed by fruit or yoghurt or icecream. As soon as I'm finished eating something I ask my mum, "Can I have some more food?"

Mum reckons I'm a growing boy. Dad reckons I've got worms.

Holidays

Hi All,

I'm back from holidays and I had a lovely time.

These are some of the things I did on holidays:

Went to the circus
Went for a bushwalk and saw a kangaroo and a joey
Went to the beach
Went to the movies and saw Tangled
Made playdough
Went to Cape Schank and saw the light house and climbed down AND up all the steps to the beach
Had fish and chips on the beach
Picked vegetables from the vegie patch
Went for a walk through a winery finding sculptures

But now we're back home.

Today I made Muscle Power Balls. Mum says they are good for my muscles (hence the name). I got to measure all the ingredients, tip them in the bowl, roll them into balls and roll them into coconut.

They are delicious!

Hi All,

Today I told my mum this story:

I was flying on a plane to Hong Kong but my friend Phoebe texted me to say that Hong Kong was closed. When the plane landed I knocked on the gate to Hong Kong and said to the lady, "Please open the gate and let me in!". She said, "No! Hong Kong is closed."

So I flew back home. I said to my mum and dad, "Hong Kong is closed." So I played Hide and Seek Gruffalo in the office and then played play dough until mum called out, "Lunch is ready!"
I told her that I was busy working but then I had a sleep and then ate my lunch.

The next time I flew to Hong Kong, the lady at the gate said that Hong Kong was now open and I could go in.

My tree top house

Hi All,

Today I had a plan. A mission, if you will. I worked at my mission quietly and with great endeavour. Until finally I had finished. I had collected EVERY pillow and cushion in the house (and it turns out we have a lot) and I built myself a tree top house.

If you've read The Gruffalo you'll know that this means that I am the owl. I tried to lure passers by (like my mum, dad and Grammy) into my tree top house. In The Gruffalo, this wouldn't have ended well for the passer-by but for my visitors it was a lot of fun!

Christmas 2010

Hi All,

It was Christmas the other day. Christmas Day (not just Christmas time). Mum tells me that December 25th is Christmas Day but all of December is Christmas time. Anyway...

I had a lot of fun. We flew on an airplane to Grammy and Papa's house. They have much nicer grass than we do. This is my Christmas shirt - it's very red.

I got a LOT of presents.

Before church I got to open one present. I opened my present from Grandma and Grandad:

It's a map that I can use my tag on. It tells me the names of all the countries. I know where Australia is (that's where I live).

My first trophy

Hi all,

I don't think I've told you before but I go to Sporteka every Friday. At Sporteka, Fatima (the teacher) shows us how to play cricket and football and golf and run. We have lots of fun. I really like the obstacle course. It took me most of the year but I've finally got the hang of stepping in BETWEEN the rungs of the rope ladder instead of on them.

Anyway, last Friday was the last Sporteka for the year and I got my first ever trophy.

This means that I am very good at sports.

It's getting all Christmasy and I like it!

This morning mum said I should go and have a look in the Christmas stockings that are in my bedroom. I checked the first stocking - NOTHING. I put my arm all the way in just to be sure. How disappointing...

Then I checked the other stocking and BINGO!!

It was my first advent box! I opened it up and there was pirate treasure!! (my dad says pirate treasure coins are called doubloons - I'm not so sure). AND inside the pirate treasure was CHOCOLATE.

Mum and I had a chat about Christmas:
Me: Mum, does this mean it's Christmas?
Mum: Yes! Do you know what Christmas is about?
Me: God?
Mum: That's right.
Me: And TOYS!

Yesterday I got to do something very exciting. I got to help mum decorate the Christmas tree!

Mum said I did a great job but later I saw her rearranging all the decorations that I'd put on the tree. What's that about, mum??

Something you might like to know about me:

I love pointing out taxis and palm tress.

Whenever I see a taxi I shout (as loud as possible), "TAXI!" Sometimes I think people think it's strange that a little boy would be hailing a taxi but I'm not - I'm just acknowledging it's presence.

Also I love palm trees. Whenever I see palm trees, I shout, "PALM TREE!" I'm not really sure why I do this but I enjoy it very much.

Funny stories

Hi All,

I would like to tell you 2 stories.

I have quite a big vocabulary (the fact that I know the word vocabulary should prove this). Also I have always been encouraged to speak nice and clearly. These facts are important for my first story. Yesterday mum and I were shopping. We got to the checkout and mum was paying the lady. I was looking around and noticed a lady at the checkout next to us. I said to mum (in my loud, clear voice), "Mum, that lady is FAT!". For some reason we left very quickly. When we were a good distance away from the fat lady my mum said, "Yes Roman, the lady is fat but we don't say that out loud because it might hurt her feelings." I don't really understand that but I now know what to do if I want to get out of the supermarket fast.

My other story happened this morning. Mum was very tired this morning because she had a meeting last night. My dad got me breakfast while mum stayed in bed. After I finished my breakfast I went into my mummy and had this conversation with mum.
Me: Mum, could you please get me my vitamins?
Mum: OK.
Me: Mum, are you happy?
Mum: Yes, I'm happy but I'm very tired.
Me: Do you want to go back to sleep?
Mum: Yes, I would love to.
Me: OK, but can I have my vitamins first?

It's all about priorities!

Weekend Away

Hi All,

I went away on the weekend to visit some family. I had such a good time.

You might know that I have been very afraid of the ocean since I got dumped a couple of times.
Mum and dad told me that we were all going to the beach and I started to get very worried. I said, "Let's do something else. Let's go to the park!" but they didn't fall for it.

But we all went to the beach and I had a GREAT time. I was a bit afraid but I saw my cousin wasn't scared at all so I had to be brave and guess what - it was awesome. I also found out that I enjoy eating sand - mmmm, crunchy!

The next day we went to Ashcombe Maze. As you might have guessed it has a maze (or three). BUT the really fun part was that there are fairies and gnomes hidden in the gardens and we had to find them!

I had such a lovely time!

I'm going to the zoo

Hi All,

On Thursday Mum and I went to Healesville Sanctuary, or as I like to call it - the bush zoo.

I got to feed a kangaroo! He ate some carrot right off my hand. I saw a wombat (Papa's favourite), a platypus, some koalas, snakes, emus and other things. I couldn't find any tigers or elephants.

We had a lot of fun except for when it was time to go home. I didn't like that bit so much.

My exciting trip

On Saturday we had a family excursion to the city which was so much fun.

First we went to the train station:

We waited for a while and then realised that there was bus replacement services running that meant it would add an extra 30 minutes onto our journey so instead we got back in the car and drove most of the way to the city.

Then we waited for the tram:

When we got into the city we went down some laneways:

Then we stopped for a coffee:

Then we went for lunch (we had dumplings if you're curious):

Then I made sure we caught the right tram back to our car:

It was so much fun! And I had a big sleep when we got home.

Hi All,

Today I went to the pool. I haven't been to the pool in a VERY long time. My mum is good at lots of things but she is not good at taking me to the pool on a regular basis. I love it a lot and hope that she takes me more often from now on. Anyway I had a great time.

I have a couple of responsibilities at home. When we come inside mum says to me, "What's your responsibility?" and I yell, "Put my shoes behind my door!!" That is my responsibility - to put my shoes away.

Now I have a new responsibility - to set the table. Mum gives me the placemats and the cutlery and I put them on the table. Then I get a sticker. (I don't have to do it in my undies like in the photo below but it was warm today and I didn't really want to put clothes on).

Hi All,

While playing hospital the other day Dr Mummy was taking my details for her paperwork. Our conversation went like this:

Dr Mummy: What is your full name?
Me: Roman Ezekiel Young
Dr Mummy: What is your mummy's name?
Me: Mummy Young
Dr Mummy: What is your daddy's name?
Me: Nathan Young
Dr Mummy: How old are you?
Me: 4
Dr Mummy: Really?
Me: OK, 3.
Dr Mummy: What is your address?
Me (shocked): I don't wear a dress. I'm a BOY!

Dr Mummy obviously needs some more practice if she wants to be a good doctor.

Hi All,

For my birthday Aunty Leanne and Uncle Tim gave me a doctor's kit. I LOVE it. All the time I go up to mum and say, "Mum, I'm feeling really sick." This is code for I want to play doctors.

I like to be sick more than I like to be the doctor. The last couple of days we've had a hospital in my bedroom with boxes for all my sick teddies. I tell mum (who is the doctor) what is wrong with them all. Today they ate cat food and dog food which is bad because they are teddies.
